The city runs its own utilities and shares a regional wastewater plant with its neighbor to the south, so the disposal and pretreatment picture here is its own arrangement. Canal drainage and a high water table are the working conditions.

What we run in Boynton Beach

Boynton splits about evenly for us, and that is unusual on this stretch of coast. The Congress Avenue retail corridor is chain restaurant territory, where the traps are sized right and the job is keeping to a schedule and turning in documentation the corporate office can file. The industrial pocket near I-95 is different work: shop drains, wash bays, interceptors that see more than kitchen grease, and line jetting on runs that were never gentle. Ocean Avenue downtown is small independents in older buildings. On the excavation side, the city’s own utility crews and the contractors working for them need utilities daylighted before they cut, and the shopping center basins along Congress need pumping every year whether anyone budgeted for it or not.

Getting a truck in

Most of Boynton is easy truck country by South Florida standards, wide commercial aprons and real service drives behind the plazas. Congress Avenue plazas want us before the lunch rush or after close, because a tanker parked across a fire lane at noon makes nobody happy. The industrial park near the interstate is the reverse, best worked in normal business hours when somebody with keys is there to open a gate and point at the right lid. Ocean Avenue downtown gets the small-block treatment, tight rear approaches and short staging. Canal crossings on the west side matter when we are hauling loaded, so we plan the loaded trip out as carefully as the trip in.

Through the year

The retail corridor stays fairly level year round, which makes Boynton a steadying part of the week for us, but the downtown independents still swell in the winter months. The bigger seasonal driver here is water. Wet season storms load the plaza and roadway basins fast, and the canal system only helps if the inlets are actually open, so late spring is basin season and we say so out loud to every property manager who will listen. Hurricane prep in early summer moves a lot of that work forward. Industrial customers barely notice the calendar at all.
