Clewiston

Working in Clewiston

We work Clewiston regularly, mostly around US 27, Sugarland Highway, Francisco Street through the older town grid, the Hoover Dike levee and the canal running down to the lake.

Clewiston sits on the south shore of Lake Okeechobee behind the Herbert Hoover Dike, and the town was laid out as a mill town on drained ground with the agricultural canal grid doing the water management. The dike is a hard edge: the lake is higher than the streets behind it, which is the single fact that explains how drainage works in this town and why nothing here moves by gravity alone.

Who calls us here

Mill and sugar processing operations, agricultural equipment yards and shops, municipal and school facilities, and a small highway and downtown restaurant base.

What we run in Clewiston

Clewiston is a mill town and we work it like one. Processing and sugar operations run heavy interceptors, wash bays and oil separators that have nothing in common with restaurant equipment, and those get pumped on a plant schedule with the manifest trail to match, because a facility this size gets asked for its documentation. Equipment yards and shops add drain and separator work. On the water side, the canal grid behind the dike is the entire drainage story, and the municipal inlets and culverts feeding it have to stay open when the lake sits higher than the street. We clean and haul. Grease work is a small local base along the highway and through the old town grid, done on the same trip out. Excavation is utility exposure on muck where a bucket is the wrong tool.

Getting a truck in

Plan the trip, then plan the trip back. This is a long run from the coast and a longer one to a disposal facility, so we group work here into one visit and size the day to what the tank will carry. US 27 is the artery and it runs heavy with cane trucks and equipment through harvest, which sets the pace whether we like it or not. Plant and yard access means credentials, a check-in and staying inside the traffic pattern already in place, which is what a CDL fleet and a haulers permit exist for. Levee and canal work happens from firm ground with containment set before anything opens.

Through the year

Harvest runs the year here. Through the cool months the mill and the processing side are at full tilt, the highway fills with cane equipment, and interceptor and washdown intervals tighten because nothing on that property can afford a stoppage. The quieter warm months are when the deeper maintenance fits, lines jetted, separators serviced, structures cleared. Then the rains arrive on drained ground with a lake behind a dike, and the canal grid becomes the only thing standing between a storm and a flooded street, so we get the inlets open beforehand. Storm season is respected here.

Clewiston sits in Hendry County, and everything on this page runs out of our yard in Miami. See the rest of Hendry or look at the trucks working.

One call covers both halves of the job in Clewiston

Most operators working this city do one side or the other. A vacuum company that pumps grease traps generally does not daylight a gas service, and an excavation outfit generally does not want to hear about your kitchen line. We run both off the same yard in Miami, with the same trucks and the same permit set.

A property manager in Clewiston calling about a parking lot that holds water after every storm frequently turns out to have two problems: basins full of sand, and a structure that has settled or cracked below the surface. The first is a cleaning. The second needs somebody who can excavate around whatever else is buried at that low point without cutting it. Splitting that across two companies is how a one day job becomes a three week one.

The same logic runs the other way. A restaurant with a line that keeps blocking has a jetting problem and a trap interval problem, and treating either one alone means doing it again in a few months. Because the crew that clears the line is the crew that services the trap, the conversation covers both instead of stopping at the edge of somebody’s scope.

What you get in writing

Every environmental service in Clewiston generates a manifest showing what came out and where it went, before and after photographs, and disposal records from an approved facility. That file is what an inspector asks for, and it is the reason the haulers permit and the dumping permit matter rather than being background detail.

On the excavation side the deliverable is different but the principle is the same. An exposed utility gets measured for depth and offset, identified by size and material, and photographed, so the drawing can be corrected before a trench crew corrects it the expensive way. Everything we run is available across this area, and telling us the job is the fastest way to find out which part of it you actually need.

Around the clock

Something failed tonight in Clewiston. Somebody answers.

Struck line, blocked kitchen drain, a basin backing up in the middle of a storm. We run every day of the year, and the phone reaches a person rather than a queue. This company is first responder owned, and the emergency side of it works the way that suggests.

Questions

Questions we get asked

Do you charge extra to come out to Clewiston?

Clewiston is inside the area we run. Tell us the job and we will tell you plainly whether it makes sense for us to be the ones doing it.

How fast can you get a truck to Clewiston?

Depends what is already running and where you are. Call and you will get a real answer rather than a maybe. We run every day of the year.

Do you service both restaurants and construction sites in Clewiston?

Both. Grease traps and cooking oil on one side, excavation and utility work on the other, out of the same yard.

Do you work nights here?

Regularly. Most kitchen work in Clewiston happens after close, and a lot of utility work has to happen off-peak.

What paperwork do we get?

Manifests, disposal records and photos on the environmental side, and measured, photographed utility records on the excavation side.
